The Proteincenter at the Ruhr-University Bochum

At the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) the Proteincenter was set up according to an aim agreement with the state government of Northrhine-Westfalia. With the Proteincenter platform technologies for the interdisciplinary protein research are supplied to the faculties of chemistry, biology, physics & astronomy, and medicine. The Proteincenter is comprised of four research areas (columns), at which coordinators serve as contact persons for research groups inside the university.

The four columns of the Proteincenter and their coordinators are:

Medical Proteome Center Prof. Dr. Helmut E. Meyer meyer@proteincenter.de Medicine
Structural Biology Prof. Dr. Klaus Gerwert gerwert@bph.rub.de Biology/Physics
Biotechnology Prof. Dr. Matthias Rögner roegner@proteincenter.de Biology
Biomolecular Analytics Prof. Dr. William S. Sheldrick sheldrick@proteincenter.de
Chemistry
Spokesman Prof. Dr. Klaus Gerwert gerwert@bph.rub.de
Secretary Carolin Krupinski krupinski@bph.rub.de

The Proteincenter may assist RUB-based research groups to get access to expert knowledge and equipment for protein research. Existing research activities are planned to be bundled and coordinated among the participating groups. Research groups should have a transparent view into the proficiency in protein science existing at the RUB, and how to get access to the facilities. The platform technologies should be further developed to be competitive for future invitations to bid by the BMBF or the European Union.
